For your first paper, write an explication of any one of the poems you’ve been assigned to read for class. Your paper should start with a thorough description of the poem itself, leaving no stone unturned. Be sure to utilize the vocabulary that we learned in class regarding the poem’s rhythm, rhyme, meter, etc.
After you’ve built the foundation, write an interpretation of what the poem means. Remember, while there are no incorrect interpretations, there are unconvincing ones, so try to persuade your reader to believe your argument. The best way to do that is to point back to your explication for evidence.
