Your final paper will be a longer (~7 paged) research-based paper on a literary work of your choice. But before you are able to “jump in,” you must first test the waters. You will do this in the form of a short topic proposal that sketches out a plan for your research paper.
Your proposal must contain:
1. a discussion of your subject,
2. a statement of your focus,
3. a reason why you chose this topic, and
4. a list of three academic sources.
Remember, you will be in dialogue with other scholars working in literary studies. If there’s no discussion already happening, your final paper might not be the best place to begin.
